We have recently seen another use for our temporary pedestrian barriers. An initiative by the Darebin City Council for ‘Raingardens’ to be installed in nature strips. Our pedestrian barriers are being used to protect these unique gardens in their early stage. Once they are established the crowd control barriers can be removed and everyone will be able to appreciate these gardens.
Raingardens and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) is an approach to improve sustainable use of water in the urban environment. In residential areas nature strips may provide an opportunity for raingardens. What a great initiative to make use of rain fall!
These raingardens have been planted in Finders Street, Thornbury.
